Feng Shui Tip of the Month – Back to School Feng Shui
August means back-to-school in many communities. As you enjoy the last of the summer activities with your children, it's also a good time to arrange their rooms for school success. Here are nine of my favorite Feng Shui tips for school success in all grades, from pre-school through college.

1. Control Clutter. Clutter represents the inability to move forward, and it distracts your children from educational pursuits. Clear as much clutter as you can, then include enough storage options in their rooms so they will put things away when it's time to study.

2. Add a desk. Place a desk in your child's room or create a study area rather than scattering papers on the kitchen table or in front of the TV. Position the desk so your child can see the entrance to the room, and avoid locating it where your child must sit with his or her back to the door.

3. Move the Computer. Position the computer and other electronic devices away from the bed and shut them off at night to cut down on negative energy from their electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs). Place a living plant within three feet of the computer.

4. Display Accomplishments. Hang a bulletin board or create a display area near your child's desk to showcase achievements like awards, artwork, report cards, and special papers.

5. Explore the Universe. Display a globe and hang charts of the planets and stars near your child's study area. In Feng Shui, a globe symbolizes curiosity, a map represents stability, and charts of the stars and planets expand horizons.

6. Add a Fish Bowl. Fish and shells are Feng Shui symbols of educational success, and maintaining a simple fish bowl or a full aquarium encourages responsibility for your child.

7. Remove Under-Bed Storage. Avoid storing shoes under the bed because this represents "walking away" from peaceful sleep. If you must use the under-bed area for storage, keep only soft items like out-of-season clothes or linens.

8. Assure the Door Opens Easily. Doors represent opportunities, so it's important that the bedroom door opens easily and completely. Avoid storing anything on the back of the door, because the extra weight symbolizes added struggles.

8. Clean the Windows. Feng Shui considers windows to represent the eyes, and dirty windows represent cloudy vision, an obvious deterrent to success. Clean the windows in your child's room to symbolically open up a clear view of the world.

9. Display Family Photos. Photo of parents, grandparents, and happy family gatherings displayed in a child’s room helps communicate love and security. With all that family support around the room, your child is sure to succeed.

From the Feng Shui Store -- Keep Your Purse Off the Floor
In Feng Shui, keeping your purse on the floor represents disregard for your wealth, plus scientific studies show that your purse can pick up all kinds of bacteria when it sits on the floor. The remedy is a Purse Hanger that lets you hang your purse safely from a table or desk. I have finally found folding purse hangers that fit neatly in your purse. It's the perfect gift for all the women on your list. The 2" disk opens to a sturdy 3" hanger. I stock them in elegant black and silver, plus I have a few available in assorted colors.Order a purse hanger for yourself and for your friends at the Feng Shui Store at
