January 2014 -- "Creating Feng Shui Home Sanctuary"

Creating Feng Shui Home Sanctuary

Q: How do I create a special space at home where I can restore my energy when the workday is done? I spend the bulk of my time in a noisy, over-heated, and brightly lit office, and I feel drained when I get home.

A: Creating a Feng Shui space for renewal and sanctuary means setting up a special place or safe haven at home where you can relax and de-stress. If you can, locate your retreat space in the Harmony/Wisdom Area of your home, which is the room in the lower left hand corner of your home. To find this area, download the Feng Shui bagua from the Basics section of my website, www.FengShuiForRealLife.com. Or, your sanctuary could simply be a comfortable reading chair near a sunny window, or any area in your home that feels nourishing and comforting. Once you’ve selected your space, here are some Feng Shui tips to turn it into a source of renewal:
• Clear the clutter so you can avoid distractions and clear your mind.
• Surround yourself with the color blue for relaxation and green for renewal.
• Add the calming scent of lavender.
• Connect to nature by including fresh flowers and artwork that shows flowers.
• Play soothing music.
• Decorate with photos of special people, art that shows your favorite places, and objects that have special meaning.

Feng Shui Tip for January. Start your year out right by doing the Feng Shui Fling. Here’s how it works: On trash day take a large plastic trash bag and move quickly through your home and fling 27 things into the bag - things that you don’t need, don’t want, or don’t know why you are keeping. The goal is to make room so new things can find you in the New Year.
