Feng Shui Tip of the Month – Five Gifts For the New Year
I know, you're still focused on all the holiday shopping you need to do for your family and friends, and you're not ready to think about the New Year, no less what gifts you are giving yourself. But, while you're shopping for others, here are five Feng Shui gifts I recommend you buy for yourself to start the New Year off right and to assure that all of your New Year's resolutions become reality:
1. Large Tote Bag. A big tote symbolizes that you are expecting the year to bring many good things and that you need a bag big enough to carry them.
2. New Shoes. Any heel height will be effective in stomping out any frustrations in the upcoming year.
3. Gold Jewelry. Gold represents abundance and prosperity, and buying yourself a new piece signifies that you will continue to accumulate wealth in the coming year.
4. Purse Hanger. When you put your purse, brief case, or that brand new tote on the floor it represents a "disregard for your wealth." Instead, use a purse hanger to get these things off the floor and give your wealth the respect it deserves.
5. Red Accessory. The color red represents the Fire Element that attracts good fortune. If you buy yourself a red wallet, be sure to fold up a $50 or $100 bill and "hide" it in your wallet, where it will attract even more wealth. Wear something red on New Year's Day to help attract new wealth. Click here to read more about the red-hot color red.

I also recommend you create a new Vision Board at the end of the year so you are ready for its power to take you into the New Year. A vision board, also called a dream board or treasure map, is a powerful Feng Shui way of using images to create the intention to attract something into your life. Arrange the images on your board according to the Feng Shui bagua. That is, place the images that relate to wealth in the upper left hand corner of the board, those that relate to love in the upper right hand corner, wealth in the upper left hand corner, and so on throughout the vision board. Then, display your vision board is in the Fame/Future area of your home or office. Click here to download a color bagua from the "Basics" section of this website.

Clutter Clinic -- Feng Shui Clutter Cleaning For Your Computer
If your email to me bounced back last month it was because I didn't realize I was over quota on my email account and I got shut down. Oops, that's obviously a Feng Shui "no-no." I do empty my email trash each night when I shut down my office so I can start fresh each morning, but obviously I was missing lots of hidden "trash," especially in my Sent Mail folder. My own situation reminded me that Feng Shui clutter clearing is not just for your physical house, it's for where your house your data as well. Just like you remove the trash from your house on a regular basis, so you need to do the same for your computer. Here are four simple things you can do at the on a regular basis, and especially at the end of the year so you can start fresh in January:
Empty the trash. The act of simply moving a file into the trash doesn't get rid of it, you also need to empty the virtual trashcan. Individual applications, like photo and email programs, may also have separate trashcans and Spam folders that should be emptied, too.
Delete software and files you don't use. If you tried out software or an app and you decided not to use it, it's a good bet it's still somewhere in there and needs to be removed. You can also go through saved files on a regular basis and get rid of everything you no longer need.
Empty your browser caches. Most web browsers will cache sites, and these files tend to grow over time. You'll find an option to clear your cache in your browser's preferences.
Eliminate nonessential files. It's helpful to run software that's designed to find and eliminate unnecessary files or that de-fragment your drive.

Don't forget to straighten up and organize your computer desktop. I arrange my desktop folders according to the Feng Shui bagua. For example, my "Feng Shui" folder is in the upper left hand corner, which is the "Wealth Area;" my "Book" folder is in the lower middle, which is the "Career Area;" and my "Upcoming Workshops" folder is in the upper middle, which is the Future Area. I've arranged the rest of the folders according to the bagua. Try this on your desktop, and let me know what changes you experience.

Success Story – Janis Triples Her Income
My client Janis hated going into her home office, and consequently her business wasn't flourishing. I recommended she clear out everything that wasn't supporting her in order to make room for new business to find her.

Here's what Janis wrote:
I followed your suggestions and cleared out everything that didn't remind me of success. This is only the short version of what I did, but I cleared the clutter, removed all of the knick-knacks except for those that remind me of success and accomplishment, and moved some of the family photos to the den. I hung my framed certifications and awards, and put elegant things on the bookshelf and desk. I added living plants. I took out all the light blue stuff and replace it with silk flowers, vases, a soft throw, and pillows in rusts, reds, and browns. I have a green candle on my desk in a gold-rimmed platter with golden "coin" (they are really dark chocolate). I removed some of the chairs to make the room more spacious. Now, I love, love, love spending time in my office because it reflects my authentic, empowered self and inspires me to succeed. Thank you for helping me to enjoy going to work again and for helping me to triple my income. Tell everyone they can contact me regarding your work.
--Janis Pullen, Executive Mastery Coach specializing in Wealth, Weight, and Leadership, www.JanisPullen.com.

Janis was too humble to mention that last month when she spoke to a Women's Networking group she attracted 90 attendees, a record for that group.

I would love to share YOUR success story. Email Carol Olmstead or call 1.800.652.9038 to schedule your home or office consultation.

Ask the Feng Shui Maven
Here are two of my favorite questions about using Feng Shui to enhance the holiday season.

Q: We have always placed our Christmas tree in the family room, which is near the front of the house. Would it be better to locate my Christmas tree according to Feng Shui principles?
A: The ideal location for a Christmas tree is in either the Wealth, Fame or Family area of your home because these Areas are supported by the Wood and Fire Elements. The Wealth area is the room in the upper left hand corner of your home, or the upper left hand corner of any room. The Fame area is located at the back of your home across from your front door. Triangular shapes displayed in these areas enhance finances, abundance, and prosperity. The Family area is on the left hand side of your home.
Read more in the article “Feng Shui Advice For Placing Your Christmas Tree” in the "Articles" section of this website.

Q: What is the Feng Shui opinion of re-gifting? My mother-in-law always brings me gifts when she comes to visit. She shops in the best stores, but what she buys doesn't always fit my style. Is it OK to give these things to friends?
A: Re-gifting is definitely Feng Shui-friendly because it removes things you don't want from your home and sends them to a place where they are welcome. Just be sure to avoid re-gifting if you have negative feelings about the gift or its original giver, since you might be passing along your negative thoughts to the next recipient.

Nationwide, I consult on request throughout the US.

You stood here in my family room and said, "Now that the renovations are done and no more fixes are needed, there are no more excuses, it's time to write." And that's what I'm doing. Your consultation was a big factor behind this exciting time for me, and you can tell everyone that I said so.

I am love, love, loving my Feng Shui'd home. I have added red to many of the rooms, like you talked about, and what a difference. Thank you again for coming and doing your magic.

From the Feng Shui Store
In the Feng Shui Art Gallery – The Feng Shui Menagerie Collection”
Artist Morgan C. Leshinsky created this original series of high quality giclée prints and note cards to use as Feng Shui cures for specific bagua areas in your home. Called The Feng Shui Menagerie Collection, these prints are modeled on the traditional Chinese zodiac, but with a fresh simplicity that is both contemporary and original.

The Rooster and the Pearl"
"The Rooster and the Pearl" is a powerful Feng Shui Office Cure to cut down on gossip, back stabbing, and office politics.

"Nine Goldfish"
The image of nine fish - eight gold and one black - is a classic Feng Shui symbol for attracting wealth because it represents growth and movement. The single black fish represents protection for your health and career, as well as increased earnings. In an office or business, this image also represents healthy competition in business.

Purse Hangers
Where do you put your purse? There is a Feng Shui saying that "your purse on the floor means money out the door." You carry your money, credit cards, and checkbook in your purse, and in Feng Shui, putting these on the floor represents disregard for your wealth and income. Plus, scientific studies also show that your purse can be contaminated with numerous bacteria when it comes in contact with the floor. The Feng Shui remedy is a Purse Hanger that lets you hang your purse safely from a table or desk. I have found folding purse hangers that fit neatly in your purse. It's the perfect gift for all the women on your list. The 2" disk opens to a sturdy 3" hanger. I stock them in elegant black and silver, plus I have a few available in assorted colors. Click here to order a purse hanger for yourself and for your friends at the Feng Shui Store.

Beyond Feng Shui – Got Peanuts?
By the end of December, you will certainly have more than enough peanuts - the Styrofoam kind that kept all of your holiday gifts safe and sound during shipping. Although you might have a tendency to save them for next year, Feng Shui recommends against keeping too many of them around. They clutter your closets and take up room that could be kept open for better things to flow into your life. Plus, I'm convinced that like wire hangers, when kept in dark closets Styrofoam peanuts breed and double in volume. The Plastic Loose Fill Council was founded in 1991 to "develop, promote, and implement the original use and subsequent recovery, reuse and recycling" of polystyrene loose fill, commonly known as "packing peanuts." Their Peanut Hotline is a nationwide reuse program for plastic packing peanuts. Consumers can drop off their leftover plastic packing peanuts at more than 1,500 collection sites in the US. Call the Hotline at 800-828-2214, or go to their website www.loosefillpackaging.com to find a drop off center near you. You can find more options for recycling packing materials at www.how2recycle.info.
